United States District Judge Derrick K. Watson Friday sentenced George Lindell, 68, and Holly Hoaeae, 41, both formerly of Maui, to 210 months and 120 months imprisonment, respectively, for their involvement in operating an extensive Ponzi scheme in which 166 individuals were induced to invest over $26 million dollars. A federal jury found Lindell and Hoaeae guilty of eight counts of mail fraud and two counts of wire fraud after a 27-day trial concluding in May 2015. Comment?

The median price of a single-family home in Maui County has climbed to $630,000 for the first half of 2016, a sum real estate experts say is pricing locals out of the market. Realtors Association of Maui President Jeannie Wenger said home sales for the first half of the year have primarily been to locals for houses below the median price and to off-island buyers who can pay $600,000 and above, The Maui News reported. Scott Bradley, an HPA alumnus, was appointed chairman of the Board of Trustees at Hawaii Preparatory Academy effective earlier this month on July 1. He is serving a two-year term, succeeding Gregory R. Mooers, who will remain on the board as vice chair. Bradley, who joined the HPA board in 2012, is president of Bradley Properties, Ltd. and co-managing director of RT, LLC. "This is an exciting time in the history of HPA," said Bradley. Comment?
