South Carolina is among the states settling lawsuits with Standard & Poor's over government allegations that the firm knowingly inflated its ratings of risky mortgage investments that helped trigger the last financial crisis. The McGraw Hill Financial subsidiary Standard & Poor's Financial Services reached a $687.5 million settlement with the U.S. Justice Department over ratings it issued from 2004 through 2007. Comment?

The distribution plan to repay investors of Compass Academy has been approved, and the state securities commissioner's case investigating the school has been closed, according to court documents. A final order approving the distribution plan and closing the case was filed earlier this month in Richland County by S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson, in his capacity as the state securities commissioner. Comment?

Scripps Health has purchased a 131,000-square-foot office building that will centralize several business services in one place. The three-story building at 10790 Rancho Bernardo Road in northern San Diego is about one mile west of Interstate 15.
