During a non-voting workshop Tuesday, the Tybee City Council met with representatives of their new trash collection service, Pooler-based Atlantic Waste, to brainstorm ways to address some of the problems that arose with the island's trash pickup this summer. The workshop was set up after a meeting last month, at which residents had complained that the current once-per-week side-door pickup schedule left trash carts around many short-term vacation rentals overflowing and smelly for days before they were picked up again. Newly revised preliminary digital flood insurance rate maps for the coastal Georgia areas of Bryan, Chatham, Liberty and McIntosh counties will be available for residents to review at four public open houses the week of July 18-22. Flood maps show the extent to which areas are at risk for flooding, and when updated maps become effective they are used to help determine flood insurance and building requirements. Comment?
