Home sales and prices continue to rise in Central Virginia, including the Richmond area, according to a report released this morning by the Richmond Association of Realtors. The median price in the Richmond area, with half the houses selling for more and half for less, was $234,520 in the second quarter, up 3.8 percent from the same period a year ago. Comment?

Hampton Roads Bankshares, Inc. , the holding company for The Bank of Hampton Roads, and Xenith Bankshares, Inc. , the holding company for Xenith Bank, today announced that the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, acting under authority delegated by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System , has granted the federal bank regulatory approvals necessary for the merger of HRB and Xenith. The merger was previously approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission, and the approval of the Federal Reserve was the final regulatory approval necessary to consummate the merger. Comment?
