Michigan is giving $2.6 million to Genesee County's land bank to demolish and improve 225 blighted properties in Flint's Civic Park neighborhood. The land bank now owns about half of the properties in the Civic Park area, and 71 more properties are recent tax foreclosures. Comment?

Taxpayers will no longer be able to make property tax payments at local banks, beginning with the fall payment, which is due in November. Allen County Treasurer Susan Orth said that due to new regulations in how payments are collected and processed at some local banks, her office decided to no longer use banks as payment points for property taxes. Citizens Financial Group announced Tuesday that it's allowing parent and student federal loan holders to refinance into private loans, the Wall Street Journal reports . The Providence, Rhode Island-based bank says those borrowers with good credit scores, proven long-term employment and a Citizens checking account would receive the lowest rate. Comment?
