Democrat Lisa McCormick says she will restore the obligation of local governments to place public notices in independent newspapers if she is elected governor, in the event that politicians succeed in their attempt to drive journalism out of business. "People have a right to know what government is doing, so lawmakers established requirements that insure independent publication of certain notices," said McCormick. Comment?

The Bank of England has tweaked an obscure rule which could make it easier for borrowers to get a mortgage of more than four-and-a-half times their annual income. LONDON, February 27 Fitch Ratings says Barclays' resilient domestic earnings were diluted by the group's corporate and investment banking business in 2016, although stronger capital markets activity and a stronger dollar compared with sterling had a positive effect on fourth quarter and overall results.
