CertusBank in Greenville, S.C., is setting the stage to liquidate itself after agreeing to sell or close all of its remaining branches. The $1.4 billion-asset bank said in a press release Monday that it will sell most of its Georgia and Florida branches to Community & Southern Bank in Atlanta. Comment?

Typically, some of the properties advertised don't make it to auction because the owner takes care of the past-due payments or makes a deal with a creditor. Nationwide, the percentage of cash sales for homes has fallen steadily since January 2013, yet the Philadelphia region's share of such transactions appears to be climbing, a report by real estate data provider CoreLogic says. In the eight-county Philadelphia region in June, the most recent month for which it has data, CoreLogic says, cash sales represented 55.1 percent of all home purchases - 13.1 percentage points higher than the same month in 2014 and well above the nation's 31.3 percent. A new report on real estate trends says foreign investors may start looking beyond Toronto and Vancouver and begin targeting markets in Montreal and Saskatoon in the coming year. The report by PwC Canada and the Urban Land Institute says both foreign and domestic real estate investment will shift in 2016 from Western Canada, where falling oil prices are hurting growth, to the east, where the low loonie is boosting manufacturing.
