10 min ago | via ABC News

Commonwealth Bank boss Matt Comyn has revealed the bank was a week away from scrapping commissions paid to mortgage brokers but ditched the plan for fears it would decrease its share of the home loan market. The first of the major bank bosses to front Kenneth Hayne's royal commission, Mr Comyn told the inquiry's Sydney hearing CBA abandoned plans to move to a flat fee model for mortgage brokers due to concerns it would be disadvantaged if it was the first bank to make the change.

  • Royal commission lights a fuse under mortgage broker...

14 min ago | via Sydney Morning Herald

While counsel assisting, Rowena Orr, traversed plenty of ground on Monday during her interrogation of Commonwealth Bank chief executive Matt Comyn, she seemed disproportionately focused on the forensics of the use of mortgage brokers and the higher incidence of poor customer outcomes for borrowers that used them.

  • CBA admits to putting profits over customers in hist...

23 min ago | via Sydney Morning Herald

Commonwealth Bank chief executive Matt Comyn has admitted to a broken culture at the bank that saw it repeatedly prioritise profits over the interests of its customers, including the charging of inflated mortgage broking commissions and unjustified fees and the sale of dud insurance to tens of thousands of customers. In an historic appearance before the Hayne royal commission, Mr Comyn conceded there had been a string of cultural failings within the country's biggest bank, which he said had been too "complacent," "legalistic", "defensive" and "insular."
