THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING ACT Proposition 10 -- California Ballot -- November 2018 Proposition 10, the Affordable Housing Act needs your support! The Affordable Housing Act is a ballot initiative to repeal California's Costa Hawkins state law and return control of rental housing law to local jurisdictions, which will enable cities and counties to legislate as they deem necessary to keep their residents housed. The Costa Hawkins Housing Act of 1995 was passed after heavy lobbying by apartment owners associations and the real estate industry.

    The funds are helping 200 families in California affected by the Thomas Fire cover one month's rent or mortgage costs A month after the U.S. Forest Service announced an end to the Thomas Fire , a California wildfire that scorched 281,893 acres of land in Southern California, the Ventura County Coastal Association of Realtors, the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors and the Ojai Valley Board of Realtors have begun distributing $290,000 in aid to 200 families who lost their homes. The associations received the $290,000 from the California Association of Realtors Housing Affordability Fund and the National Association of Realtors' Realtor's Relief Foundation, which had $650,000 in available funds for wildfire victims.

    Asking prices dropped on 12 percent of the homes for sale in the Seattle region in June, up from 6.9 percent a year ago and the largest wave of reductions since October 2014, Zillow said Wednesday. Zillow reported more price cuts now than a year ago in more than two-thirds of the nation's largest metropolitan areas.

    A Los Angeles-based health care nonprofit known for funding controversial ballot measures is waging an expensive battle with the real estate industry over rent control in California. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has poured more than $12 million into a November initiative it's spearheading to let cities and counties regulate rental fees in buildings that state law currently shields from such control.
