The Illinois Association of Realtors' numbers show that single family homes and condominium sales in April were at 12,822, up 6.6% from April 2014 when 12,032 homes were sold. Fifty out of the 102 counties in Illinois reported record sales gains for April 2014 over previous-year numbers, including Macon County, up 19.6% with 116 units sold. Comment?

A top aide to the Illinois treasurer said Thursday it was "unlikely" that the state's cash balance was so low last week that the comptroller couldn't follow a federal judge's order to pay for services for the developmentally disabled. The treasurer's office pointed to daily balance sheets showing the state began the day on Friday with more than $217 million and ended it with more than $57 million on hand. Comment?

Illinois property taxes are now so high that they are equivalent to a second mortgage, according to a new study from the nonpartisan Tax Foundation , a Washington-based tax-research and -education center. The report, which shows the effective property-tax rates in each state, ranks Illinois as the second-highest property-tax state in the U.S. The top spot goes to New Jersey, where the effective property-tax rate is 2.38 percent, barely higher than Illinois' 2.32 percent. The strong summer housing market continued in July as home sales and median prices posted robust gains while the time it took to sell a home declined, according to the Illinois Association of Realtors. In the nine-county Chicago region, home sales, which include single-family homes and condominiums, totaled 12,384 in July, an increase of 9.6 percent from the 11,298 sales in the same month last year. I guess that is what comes when you invade the indigenous people and find their customs annoying and primitive.
