The first wave of the 25,800 homeowners in the Triangle who lost their home to foreclosure or short sale during the economic crisis could begin re-entering the housing market in 2015. Conservatively, it takes about seven years to repair one's credit and be able to qualify for a loan to buy a home, and real estate research firm RealtyTrac is forecasting that more than 7.3 million homeowners in the U.S. could become eligible again for homeownership between 2015 and 2022, also known as "boomerang buyers." This time last year, home prices in the Durham-Chapel Hill metro area were still falling on a 5 percent basis, but new RealtryTrac data shows the metro has reversed course with a median home sale price that's up 6 percent in November. According to RealtyTrac , Durham ranks among the top 10 metro areas with the fastest accelerating home price appreciation levels. Comment?

Charlotte, North Carolina-based AvidXchange Inc. announced May 19 it has entered an agreement to acquire Houston-based Strongroom Solutions, a technology company that focuses on accounts payable software for the real estate market. AvidXchange intends to keep the Houston presence, and in fact, it plans to double the employee headcount in Houston over the next 12 months. Comment?

Leading Spanish social activist Ada Colau says the fight against evictions, poverty and corruption will be her priority as new mayor of the country's second city, Barcelona.
