The locally-owned bank was turned down Thursday in the the bank earned from mortgage-backed securities between 2004 and 2007 is subject to business and occupation tax. The bank argued that the tax should be refunded because the income came from bonds back by mortgage revenues, and therefore was "primarily secured" by mortgages or property deeds as collateral.
