Members of the North Carolina General Assembly had a full schedule last week, considering bills on everything from repealing the state's cumbersome Map Act to voiding a law which required teachers to write Personal Education Plans for their students. The House filed over 200 bills week, meeting their bill filing deadline of April 16. Both the House and Senate have until Thursday, April 30 to pass bills out of their respective chambers in order to meet the crossover deadline. Comment?

U.S. house prices rose more than economists estimated in February as the strongest labor market in seven years gives Americans the confidence to bid on property. Prices climbed 0.7 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from January, the Federal Housing Finance Agency said in a report Wednesday. Comment?

Blue Hills Bank won a bankruptcy-related case in front of the US Supreme Court on Monday, one that pitted the small Hyde Park institution against a homeowner, one of the nation's largest banks and the Obama administration. The Supreme Court decided in Blue Hills favor and cut off one potential option for debtors to fight a bankruptcy plan for repaying their creditors. Comment?

Cash profit, which excludes one-time items, climbed to a record A$3.68 billion in the six months ended March 31, the lender said Tuesday, beating estimates of A$3.64 billion. Redwood Trust saw its net income fall again in the first quarter of 2015, falling from $27 million in the fourth quarter of 2014 to $15 million in the first quarter.
