Wells Fargo Bank has filed for foreclosure on Fifth Third Center, 21 E. State St., after the Texas-based owners of the Capitol Square skyscraper defaulted on the mortgage. Dallas-based Tier REIT, formerly known as Behringer Harvard REIT, acquired the Fifth Third Center in 2007 as part of a larger $1.4 billion acquisition of IPC US REIT, a Toronto-based real-estate investment trust that owned about 10 million square feet of office buildings in the United States. I am a believer in dreams, and when I had a waking dream a few days after the S&P downgrade of our national debt of President Obama packing his bags and leaving the White House, I was saddened for him and for my country.
