Lower unemployment, bankruptcies and foreclosures in March reduced the nation's economic stress to its lowest point this year, according to The Associated Press' monthly analysis of conditions around the country. More than 85 percent of the nation's 3,141 counties and every state but two - Louisiana and South Dakota - enjoyed better conditions in March than in February, the AP's Economic Stress Index showed. One of the country's biggest mortgage brokers, Mortgage Choice, says the clampdown on lending to landlords has dragged property investors' share of its loan approvals to a 20-month low. In a sign banks' tighter credit standards are having some impact, Mortgage Choice says the proportion of its loan approvals going to property investors fell from 34 per cent in May to 30 per cent in June, the lowest share since late 2013. The monthly increase of outstanding mortgages rose to its fastest pace in five years last month amid record-low interest rates, after the Bank of Korea cut its key rate to 1.75 percent on June 11. Korea's seven largest commercial banks' collective housing-collateralized loans swelled by 9.27 trillion won in June, compared to the previous month. The figure included loans that borrowers converted into state-led, lower-rate contracts. Comment?
