BANGOR, Maine - With items ranging from airplane rides to orthodontia, vacation rentals to an autographed Stephen King book, The Salvation Army is gearing up for its Harvest Auction, an annual fundraising event to be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Spectacular Event Center in Bangor A tradition for more than 20 years, the auction includes a sit-down meal, entertainment, a silent auction and the live auction for only $20. The funds raised through this event support The Salvation Army's fuel fund, which provides assistance to area families during the cold winter months. Comment?

Maine 's residential market is on an uptrend as single-family home sales saw an increase last month, a new report on the Bangor Daily News revealed. Citing data from the Maine Association of Realtors, the report said that home sales for single-family units moved upwards even if home prices slipped to $178,000. Comment?

Single-family home sales rose in August, compared with last year, as the median price paid for those homes dipped to $178,000. The total volume of home sales for the state's busiest month for real estate transactions rose 3.3 percent from one year ago, bucking a national and regional decline in single-family home sales, according to a transaction tracking service maintained by the Maine Association of Realtors. The prognosticators tend to be frustrated folks trying to crack the housing market, and they are sure to be disappointed by a Conference Board pronouncement Thursday that no real estate downturn is in sight for Vancouver.
