With his next home lined up in Hanover County, the buyer of the late Harwood and Louise Cochrane homestead has listed his Stratford Hills residence for $1.75 million. Retired tobacco executive James H. Starkey III, who purchased the Cochranes' Walnut Hill country manor house earlier this month for $1.49 million, is selling the contemporary home he had custom-built at 7401 Riverside Drive. Comment?

Median residential sale prices, with half the houses selling for less and half for more, increased in the Richmond region in August from the same month a year ago, according to The Long & Foster Market Minute reports. In Hanover County, the median sale price rose 7 percent and by 6 percent in the city of Richmond. Comment?

Hanover County-based Owens & Minor Inc.'s profit increased more than 14 percent in the second quarter as the company benefited from revenue growth in its domestic business and improved expense control. The company, a logistics provider and distributor of medical and surgical supplies, reported profit of $27.7 million, or 45 cents per share, for the second quarter that ended June 30, compared with profit of $24.2 million, or 39 cents per share, for the same period of 2015. The number of homes sold increased in the Richmond region in April compared to year-ago levels, according to The Long & Foster Market Minute reports. Goochland County led the way with a 67 percent increase, followed by Hanover County with a 38 percent increase in home sales. Comment?

While the D.C. area real estate markets have been consistently growing in the past eight years, it's been those markets that are farther out that have been growing the most, at least according to Jonathan Fox, principal at the Fox Group with Compass. In Fox's column with The Washington Post , he wrote that suburban markets that are "farther out" and "traditionally rural" are seeing noticeable increases in buying activity and even double-digit gains in median home prices.
