New mortgage foreclosure cases in southeastern Wisconsin continued at their slowest pace in more than a decade during the first three quarters of 2016. Court records show there were 3,111 foreclosure filings in Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties through September. Comment?

The Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act sets forth specific procedures that a mortgage lender or mortgage servicing company must follow in response to a borrower's request for information. In an effort to combat rising student debt in the state, Gov. Scott Walker announced University of Wisconsin Credit Union will expand its membership eligibility to all Wisconsin residents who have previously attended college anywhere in the U.S. or abroad. In the past, UW Credit Union only served students who attended a UW System or Madison College institution. Comment?

Cuomo on Friday bowed to pressure from the hotel industry and signed into law one of the nation's toughest restrictions on Airbnb -- including hefty fines of up to $7,500 for people who rent out space in their apartments. Backers of the punitive measure -- which applies to rentals of less than 30 days when the owner or tenant is not preset -- say many property owners use Airbnb and similar sites to offer residential apartments as short-term rentals to visitors, hurting the hotel business while taking residential units off the Big Apple's high-priced housing market.
