The foreclosure rate in the San Antonio-New Braunfels area declined in May to its lowest point since at least 2009, remaining well below the rest of the nation. The rate, which measures the percentage of loans that are in the foreclosure process, fell to 0.57% from 0.62% during May of last year, according to a report released Thursday by CoreLogic, a real estate analytics company. British mortgage approvals dipped to the lowest level since May 2015 in the weeks around last month's vote to leave the European Union, but lending to consumers expanded at the fastest pace in almost 11 years. The Bank of England said lenders approved 64,766 mortgages in June compared with 66,722 in May, extending a gentle slide since the start of the year and undershooting analyst expectations for 65,650 mortgage approvals. Pre-tax profits at Barclays tumbled 21% to A 2.06 billion in the first half of the year as the lender warned that Brexit could have a negative impact on the bank. It said the increased risk of recession with lower growth, higher unemployment and falling UK house prices "would likely negatively impact a number of Barclays' portfolios", most notably its mortgage offering.
