Accusations of an affair between Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell and city Finance Director Ashley Flowers and potential ethics violations and misuse of city resources have folks talking. On social media and at a recent Parkersburg City Council meeting, people have called for both to resign or be removed and chastised council members for not taking action against them.
A light agenda for Tuesday's regular City Council meeting includes a resolution authorizing agreements with the West Virginia Housing Development Fund for a pair of $250,000 loans. The money would be used to demolish dilapidated properties, acquiring some that have the potential for redevelopment in the future, Mayor Bob Newell said.
Embattled city Finance Director Ashley Flowers released a public statement Wednesday saying she had an affair with Mayor Bob Newell. "It has affected many people, including my family, the City and Council members and for that, I am truly sorry," she said in the emailed statement.
