Those words from Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero in regards to the explosive growth of medical marijuana dispensaries in the capital city. The mayor is calling for a moratorium on new medical marijuana dispensaries in Lansing until the City Council approves new regulations to govern the industry.
"I promised the citizens of Lansing that our police department would deploy body worn cameras for every patrol officer in the city," Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero said. Mayor Virg Bernero made that promise at last year's state of the city address, and announced today that the city is investing about $180,000 to purchase the cameras, and will spend about $100,000 a year for upkeep.
On March 4, Lansing's city attorney Janene McIntyre resigned voluntarily, but the Lansing State Journal reports that McIntyre was still paid $160,000 in salary and accrued benefits. McIntyre and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero have repeatedly declined to discuss the details about why she left and why she was given such a substantial payment by the city.
