Representative - Scott DesJarlais

Party: Republican

Congressmen Scott DesJarlais, M.D. and Steve Cohen Monday introduced their bipartisan Enhancing Safety at Military Installations Act with the support of the entire Tennessee House Delegation.
Republican Tennessee Congressman Scott DesJarlais said during a Fox Business interview that President Barack Obama needs to order the flag at half-mast following last week's Chattanooga shooting, and that he couldn't imagine why he hadn't already. DesJarlais, who represents some of the suburban areas surrounding Chattanooga, told Fox Business Network host Stuart Varney that a flag lowering "needs to happen, and it needs to happen soon I don't know why it wouldn't."
In the wake of Thursday's slaying of four Marines at two military installation's in Chattanooga, U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais, R-Tenn., says he plans to introduce a bill allowing U.S. military personnel with firearms training to carry handguns on military bases and other installations "Like so many in Tennessee and across our nation, I am heartbroken, angered and frustrated over the heinous acts that took place in Chattanooga," DesJarlais said in a statement. The South Pittsburg congressman said after speaking with "countless folks in my district ... one thing is clear: we must do something to help prevent another Chattanooga."

The Muslim attack that killed five military men in Chattanooga has brought paroxysms of grief, an emotional public outpouring of sympathy and an unconstitutional edict from Mayor Andy Berke.
Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke has issued an order to keep protesters away from the sites of last week's shootings as well as funeral processions and funeral services. A military recruiting station on Lee Highway and a Navy-Marine reserve center on Amnicola Highway were the targets of 24-year-old Muhammad Abdulazeez's July 16 rampage.
Just a day before funerals for the fallen Chattanooga service members are to begin, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke issued a Mayoral Directive to the Chattanooga Police Department directing all City of Chattanooga law enforcement personnel to treat the Lee Highway and Amnicola Highway Memorial sites as protected memorial services. Berke says this will shield the funeral services, funeral processions, and both memorial sites from any protests.
