A whole range of forms of physical and verbal abuse to discipline a child, including spanking that most Filipino parents have become accustomed to doing, will soon be grounds for the detention of guilty parents and for the suspension of their parental authority over their children.

Ending corporal punishment will be the downfall of the Philippines. Look at what has happened in the USA since corporal punishment was banned. Todays average American youth is lazy, disrespectful to himself and to his elders and to others. To put it bluntly. Children are just like young animals. They must be trained to act properly in society. Be it with a gentle touch or a spanking on the behind with a belt. The bible says it all. Spare the rod and spoil the child.

I was one of those children who've been spanked. But it doesn't mean that my parent is bad. Maybe that time they tried to discipline me. Now, I am in a country where the child is always right. Do not hit!Even preaching makes a child to call the authority. Doesn't matter it is, they'll questioned the parents.Some children these days are impolite and so on due to lack of discipline that the parent can't do it because they have to be aware for themselves also.

When I was a kid, if I did something really bad, my mom or aunt use a ruler made of wood and spank my butt so I will not do it again. Discipline is important for children to understand things between good and bad. As long as spanking is done in a controlled way and only as a last resort.

Eva, todays kids refuse to accept authority knowing that they can get away with being bad. I got my butt spanked many times. I was hard headed and go to the same thing again and get spanked again. Only happened when I was small and I am glad it happened because without some discipline I may have continued being a bad boy and ended up in big trouble.....

Kids really needs discipline and also to respect their parents if they don't have respect they will not obey their elders.
