I'm so worried about the people of the Philippines now. I wish I could do something to help them.I do send money there to my friends when I can. Now if they can't get rice I'm afraid of a possible famine there. God please don't let that happen.

Such a pity for those areas affected by the damage of typhoon Ondoy "Ketsana".

Our sympathy and solidarity to those destroyed properties and ricefields that has been done by severe floods and typhoon. We hope that the survivors could receive immediate help and relief to repair the damages and loses.

You can donate money to the Philippine Red Cross through Xoom.com without a money transfer fee. I'm sure there's information about it on their site. I got an email about it today and there's a special code to put in the coupon box, account numbers, etc. to insert in their site to do so.

I'm sure my wife and I will also have to increase our money sent to her mother in the RP monthly so she can withstand the hike in rice prices until things go back to normal.

Rob, as it looks now, Tarlac will escape the worst of Peneng. I am just north of Tarlac and currently it is raining and breezy. Not a bad day. The far northern provinces of Luzon are in the direct path of this storm.

i'm from the Philippines. as I watch the news, the newscasters said that as of now, the government will give some rations for the victims that affected their farms. the most affected areas are in the NCR (national capital region).some in region4-a.some of the places were still flooded.they need more relief and rations.

My Family is one of the thousands of families affected in Tarlac.. I tried to go home but transportation is not possible, roads flooded and not passable... I am so worried but don't know what to do.. I could not contact anyone, only in the yesterday morning..Power is down..It was texted to me in the morning however that 6 gates of the dam were opened possibly caused the sudden and massive floodings!!! how could there be no early warnings and evacuation done?
Have they not computed the capacity and limitations of the dam when will it over flow?

Rice is one of the main causes of diabetes and 'bangungot'(a prevalent cause of death while sleeping, a pancreatic disorder) among Filipinos.

It's time to change the eating habits of Filipinos by waning its dependence from rice.

The Philippines had always been importing rice from Vietnam and Thailand.

"a month's worth of rain dumped in just 6 hours!!!" where is the scientific truth in that? Can the atmosphere really hold that amount of water and dump it in just 6 hours. C'mon, we should all go back to the basics of physics. Here is something scientific: "a month's worth of rain accumulated in dams dumped in just 6 hours". Whoever opened those dams must have a motive to do that. Motive number 1: he was instructed by those business minded people to protect the dams, let those peasants drown and not our investments. Motive number 2: he was one of the conspirators to revive the slowing loan business of the big banks. The big spenders are in Manila, after the flood damages, thay will be all lining up in the banks to get a loan. Conspiracy or not, hundred of lives were lost.
