Three-year ban for Darlington man who kicked his dog in the ribs

A MAN who was filmed kicking his pet dog in the ribs has been banned from keeping animals for three years. Mobile phone footage played at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court showed Jon Soley forcefully kicking his Patterdale Terrier after it had caught a rabbit.

Free rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats in Annadale this weekend

Free rabies vaccinations to dogs and cats will be offered in Annadale this Saturday at the Blue Heron Nature Center, 222 Poillon Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In New York City, rabies is commonly found in bats, raccoons and sometimes rats. Earlier this month, the city vaccinated raccoons in parts of Brooklyn and Queens using a bait carrying the oral rabies vaccine.

Kissing Bug Spreading Parasite in Texas Dogs

A disease that has infected millions of people in Mexico, Central America and South America is now showing up in greater numbers than had been previously reported in Texas; not in people, but in dogs. A recently released study by researchers at Texas A&M University showed that nearly one in 10 shelter dogs had been exposed to the parasite that causes Chagas, a disease spread by insects known as kissing bugs .
