It should be required viewing for the pro-growth crew out there. Marin didn't become a Los Angeles-like series of suburban towns because of those efforts and the efforts of organizations like the Marin Agricultural Land Trust.

Very excited to see this. I do wonder though where they are buying their archival footage because it's rarely that expensive.

I hope it includes a segment showing the massive freeway congestion and northern urban sprawl caused by all the people living in Sonoma and commuting to San Francisco who would otherwise have been living in Marincello (a/k/a West Sausalito.)
|

Wow. Do you often fantasize about Marincello freeway congestion when you are part of the traffic problem in Sonoma? |

"...there were conservationists that were Republicans, who saved the land from development,"...It was an incredible narrow space in time when that thought was there."
Horrors! Republicans helped "saved the land"! What a nit-wit comment this is. With this logic, he is saying that only non-Republicans are interested in preserving open space in Marin now? Did you talk to each and every Republican to gather that lame brain opinion? Oh yeah, it's the IJ... just forgot. |

I think his point was that seldom do todays "conservative" republicans foster conservation. http://www.rep.org/ is not a very popular republican organization, in fact I believe http://www.logcabin.org/ is even more popular |

Marincello was being promoted by the now defunct Gulf Oil Corp.. The city was to be a new utopian type with pedestrian and bike paths connecting all the condo boxes. Cars were to be parked in a central lot and the people were supposed to live without automobiles to some degree inside the compound. At least that is how they promoted it anyway. If one goes out to the end of Tennessee Valley Rd. in Tam Valley, there are still remnants of the entrance to the development, and a placque explaining what was proposed and did not happen. I forgot the details but the placque has a picture of a serpant on it that is supposed to be the development. It said something about how there was strong opposition to it, the real reason it was killed was because of some lawsuit instead. I am very excited about this film project. It is important to all that live in the region to understand why west Marin is the way it is today. Many newcomers simply take for granted what they see, and some don't even care at all about it, they never have time to explore the beautiful area. They are too busy trying to find work, working and commuting "on the slab" (101) for 4 hours a day. And some of them are pro-growth, calling it necessary SMART growth and sustainable at that. As long as the growth is up there (Novato/Sonoma) we don't care, but leave west Marin out of your sustainable SMART plans. Thank you. |

Typical Pulipaca ending to an otherwise good post. This story / thread has nothing to do with the SMART train. I am pro-SMART and anti-growth. The two are not exclusive of each other, despite your illusion otherwise. You say "As long as the growth is up there (Novato/Sonoma) we don't care". First, why do you continue to try to speak for others? Ignoring the fact you are trying to be spokesperson for others, your opinion demonstrates how selfish you are. Your views on public policy are solely dependendent on your personal standing. Your disdain for the folks who happen to live to the north demonstrates the arrogance of your thinking. |

Now now, Bobin Sacamano, why don't you cook up another faux Pulipaca post to tell us all how you really feel about SMART growth ! |

So where are today's heroes when Tiburon's ridgeline has been put up for sale by Mark Reed?
|
||||
|
I do hope the filmmakers will include "The Sons of Champlin''s song, "Hilltop", in their soundtrack. No other song could possibly be so apt.
|
||||
Why don't they (today's heroes-to-be) buy the ridgeline properties? The resident's of downtown Belvedere-Tiburon passed bonds to purchase some of the Harroman properties to preserve open space and restrict development, why not more efforts like that? |

Good question. All the fighting that has payed off for us in the past must be continued. But Tiburon has been sold out many years ago, so there is very little left to fight for. Any of the last open spaces left in southern Marin should be preserved, but if it was privately owned by the Martha and Reed families, then it is probably a given that it will be developed. Just be thankful that all the streets laid out under the Richardson Bay were never built out, and 131 to Tiburon was not extended to Angel Island and the east bay as planned on a bridge ! |

It takes money to buy ridge lines. In Mill Valley they did it on Warner Ridge. If the people can afford to preserve what is left from the developers D-8 blades, it has been done. But now money is tight, and people would much rather donate to Sonoma county commute trains than preserve what is left of Marin. |

Right...the SMART train costs shoppers .25% sales tax across Marin and Sonoma. So by your account, we are "donating" 25 cents for every $100 we spend. Another Pulipaca twisted fact. |
