    Christopher J. Roy, 36, Shrewsbury

    Firefighter Christopher J. Roy, 36, a Worcester Firefighter assigned to Webster Square Station Ladder 4, died on Sunday, December 9th from injures that he sustained while fighting a fire in the early morning hours at 7 Lowell Street. Chris was born in Worcester on August 30, 1982 and is survived by his daughter Ava, who was the light of his life; his parents, Ronald and Michele Roy of Worcester; a brother, Jason Roy and his wife, Jennifer of Shrewsbury; his niece and goddaughter, Ashlynn Roy of Shrewsbury; many aunts, uncles, cousins and his brother and sister firefighters.

    Final arrangements have been made for Christopher Roy, a firefighter with the Worcester Fire Department, who died Dec. 9 after suffering injuries that occurred as the department was fighting a five-alarm fire on Lowell Street in that city earlier that morning. Roy, 36, had been with the department for 2-1/2 years and served on Ladder 4 of the Webster Square Fire Station.

    As many as 10,000 firefighters from across the nation are expected to attend services this week for Worcester Firefighter Christopher Roy, who lost his life Sunday battling a five-alarm fire at a multifamily residence at 7 Lowell St. The wake will be held Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. John's Church, 44 Temple St., with a funeral Mass to be offered at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Deputy Chief Martin Dyer of the Worcester Fire Department said funeral plans were being finalized Tuesday “to make sure everything is set for Friday and Saturday and that we pay a really good tribute to Chris.” He said 8,000 to 10,000 firefighters from across the country are expected to attend and pay their respects.

    A hearse carrying the body of Firefighter Christopher Roy paused momentarily Monday as it passed by the Webster Square fire station where the fallen firefighter had been on duty Sunday when he was dispatched to a burning building on Lowell Street. A procession of fire and police vehicles accompanied the hearse to Boston in the morning and for the return trip to Worcester at mid-afternoon after his body was examined at the chief medical examiner's office.
