    Horseman Tony MacRae dies in Florida

    Horseman Anthony "Tony" MacRae, a well known horseman, especially during the era when Ben White Raceway in Orlando was a major winter training center for champions, died Jan. 31. He was 80. In addition to his own work as a trainer-driver for more than 50 years, during which time he won more than 1,100 races, Mr. MacRae was known to help many of his peers troubleshoot a problem with a horse. Jimmy Cruise credited him with helping get the top trotter Magician going-Magician went on to earn $3.5 million.

    Royce L. Hart

    Royce Luvert Hart, 87, of Winter Park, Fla., and Sumerduck, Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Winter Park Memorial Hospital. He is survived by Toni Hart, his beloved wife of 67 years; and his children, Royce Lynne Taylor, Roger Lee Hart, Richard Larry Hart, Lea Marie Kelly and James Alfredo Sargent.

    Betty J. Starnes, age 83, of Florida, formerly of Alliance, passed away at 6:53 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at Winter Park Care and Rehab Center in Winter Park, Florida. Survivors include her children, Carl Jackson Starnes of North Carolina, Mary Ann Hardiman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Paul Starnes of Sherrodsville, Ohio, and Brenda Chynoweth of Winter Park, Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
