    A memorial service to celebrate the life of David Lee Richardson, Jr. 49, was held Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, in Haw Bluff Baptist Church, Ivanhoe, N.C. Inman Ward Funeral Home served the family. He passed away Feb. 15, 2018, in the home of his loving friends, the Arthur Glen Thompson family of Whiteville, N.C. Mr. Richardson died surrounded by family and friends following a short but courageous battle against an aggressive recurrence of cancer.

    Richard Aldo Genova, 70, of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., formerly of Wilmington, N.C., and Williamstown, Mass., passed away in his sleep on February 24, 2018. Richard was born August 10, 1947 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was the first of three sons of Aldo and Lucy Genova.

    According to State Highway Patrol Trooper Corey Blackwell, a pickup truck was traveling south on US 17 near NC 904 when the driver swerved into the turn lane and hit a van around 8 p.m. Blackwell said both people in the van, Francis Carlisle, 82 and her husband, Leroy Carlisle, 82, were transported to Grand Strand Hospital and died from their injuries. According to the associate pastor of their church, Beach Assembly of God, the couple was driving home from an addiction recovery program where they volunteered every Friday night.

    State highway worker struck by car and killed while ...

    A 25-year-old contract worker for the Virginia Department of Transportation died Saturday after a car struck him while he was setting up a mobile work zone on Interstate 95 in Prince George County, state police said Sunday. Dustin Michael Warden of Carson was working on the southbound side of the highway near Route 602 when he was hit by a 2015 Honda Civic, police said.

    A Wilmington teen who spent the summer working with the cast and crew of the PBS show "This Old House" has died. According to a post on the Kids Making It Facebook page, Wilson died early Tuesday morning due to a pre-existing medical condition.
