    Charles Cawley, who helped spearhead the concept of affinity credit cards - emblazoning logos of universities and associations on the plastic - and thereby built MBNA into a financial juggernaut that was sold to Bank of America for $35 billion, died Nov. 18 at his home in Camden, Maine. He was 75. As chief executive, Mr. Cawley grew MBNA into the world's largest credit card issuer by persuading organizations - including universities, sports teams and philanthropies - to sponsor cards backed by the company.

    Irene Marie Johns, 90, a five-year resident of Columbia and previously of Edgewater, died on Nov. 10, 2015 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia. Born August 16, 1925 in Wilmington, DE, to the late Francis and Marguerite Givens, Irene worked as an administrative assistant for the American Postal Workers Union for 20 years.

    David Bryan Irwin, 57, Loretto, passed away Sunday at UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh, surrounded by family and friends after a short courageous battle with the rare cancer rhabdomyosarcoma. Surviving are his wife, Deborah ; his parents of Irvona; two sisters: Lisa Conroy of Wilmington, Del., and Sherri Thomas of Altoona; a sister-in-law, Chris Irwin of Osceola Mills; his honorary brother, Warren Pusey, who was by his side to the end; and 12 nieces and nephews.
