    Paul 'Mo' McNally

    Mr. Paul 'Mo' Morris McNally of Vacaville, California, born on Oct. 29, 1946, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to the late Genevieve McNally and the late William 'Bill' McNally, passed away at age 71 on Aug. 13, 2018, in Vancouver, Washington. Paul graduated from the University of California, Berkeley.

    Members of the Travis Air Force Base Honor guard perform a flag folding demonstration for students from Travis and Scandia elementary schools at the conclusion of a 9/11 ceremony Tuesday at the Airman and Family Readiness Center on base. Students began the ceremony by walking from their campuses to the center where they then sang patriotic songs and listened to classmates' poems.

    David Edward Covey of Fairfield, California, beloved son, husband, brother, father, papou, uncle, nephew, friend and annual Santa is now in the hands of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. After seven months of surgeries and complications, he passed away at UCSF Hospital on Aug. 26, 2018, surrounded by family who loved him so very much.

    Sandy Marthaler walked into The Reporter office Friday with a big smile on her face, ready to talk about her family and the recent passing of its 96-year-old matriarch, her mother Stella Gilliam. “It's a hard day, yes,” she admitted, “but when you are talking about someone who lived 96 years, you expect it to arrive.” The Reporter originally wrote a story about her family a few years ago because they represented five generations of women and girls in Vacaville.

    Fallen Solano CHP officer remembered, laid to rest

    A week after being struck and killed by a wayward driver, California Highway Patrol Officer Kirk Griess was remembered Friday by thousands of loved ones and public safety brethren from throughout the nation and the world. They came from Solano and throughout California, from as close as Nevada to as far as Tijuana and everywhere in between, all in honor of a fallen brother and the family he leaves behind.

    Board of Supervisors Chairman John Vasquez reminded everyone Tuesday that nothing is routine for California Highway Patrol officers patrolling the streets and highways of Solano County. The board closed its meeting in memory of 19-year CHP veteran Kirk Griess, who died Friday when he was struck by a pickup truck during what has been described as a "routine traffic stop" of another vehicle along westbound Interstate 80 near Manuel Campos Parkway.

    Officers escort fallen CHP officer's body to Vacaville

    His body arrived at Vaca Hills Chapel on Elmira Road with an escort of police officers and streets lined with people paying their respect. Officers and first responders escorted the officer's body Friday afternoon from NorthBay Medical Center to the Solano County Coroner's Office in downtown Fairfield.

    Fairfield police officers and firefighters salute as the procession escorting the body of fallen California Highway Patrol officer Kirk Griess travels from the Solano County Coroner's Office to Vacaville on Saturday morning. Griess and a Vallejo motorist he had pulled over in Fairfield were both killed by a wayward vehicle on Interstate 80 Friday morning.

    Law Enforcement Honors Fallen CHP Officer Griess

    Riding the kind of motorcycle he used to serve and protect, members of the California Highway Patrol paid tribute to their fallen brother of 19 years - escorting his body from North Bay Medical Center to a funeral home in his hometown of Vacaville after an horrific morning crash on Interstate 80. That crash lowered flags at the CHP Academy and fellow officers solemnly prepared to make Griess' name the 229th added to a concrete and stone salute for those on the force killed in the line of duty.
