David Roth, general director of the Kentucky Opera for nine years, died in a car accident while returning to Louisville after visiting family on Sunday, July 19, 2015. He was 56. According to The Courier-Journal , Roth was traveling east on Interstate 74 in central Illinois at around 9 p.m. when his Hyundai Elantra went off the road and into a ditch, eventually striking a tree. A 56-year-old Louisville, Ky., man died Sunday evening in a one-vehicle accident along Interstate 74 in Piatt County. According to an Illinois State Police report, David D. Roth, the driver of an eastbound silver 2014 Hyundai Elantra, left the highway at 8:58 p.m. at milepost 164.2 , drove into the right ditch, became airborne, landed back in the ditch and hit a tree head-on. Passengers are rescued as they stand atop the Eastland passenger ship after the vessel capsized in the Chicago River in downtown Chicago. The Eastland Disaster Historical Society is planning events this summer to mark the 100th anniversary of the disaster, in hope that the events educate Chicago-area residents about the more than 840 people who died when the ship sank in the Chicago River on July 24, 1915.
