    Michael P. Scholler

    Michael P. Scholler, president of a decades-old fireplace shop who was known for his interest in the next innovation, died Tuesday in the Grove at Oak Leaf Village in Sylvania Township. He was 84. Mr. Scholler was president of Myers Fireplace & Patio on North Reynolds Road in South Toledo, named for Farley Myers, who according to a Blade report had to go to the Seattle area to find a manufacturer for a fireplace to put into his cottage.

    City, community leaders working to prevent gun violence

    His mother, Monica Myers, was fatally shot at about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 1. She and other family members were traveling in a vehicle near Detroit Avenue and Alexis Road when someone in another vehicle, described in court records as a white GMC Envoy, followed them for several miles before firing several shots into their vehicle, according to Toledo police.

    Post-Gazette to cut print on Tuesdays and Saturdays

    The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette will stop publishing a print edition on Tuesdays and Saturdays, according to a letter the paper sent to funeral directors this week. Pittsburgh's last daily newspaper announced Sunday in a front page story written by Executive Editor David M. Shribman that it would print only five days a week starting Aug. 25. The story did not specify what days would be cut.

    Carl W. Core Jr., 75, of Delphos passed away peacefully on Thursday at Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center after a courageous two year battle with brain cancer. He was born Aug. 13, 1942, in Lima to Carl W. Core Sr. and Rosemary Fry, who both preceded him in death.
