    Leslie Feinberg, the author best known for the 1993 novel "Stone Butch Blues," died Saturday at home in Syracuse, N.Y., of "complications from multiple tick-borne co-infections," as reported in The Advocate and confirmed by Feinberg's partner and spouse, Minnie Bruce Pratt , a poet and professor at Syracuse University. Feinberg was 65. An obituary written by Pratt describes Feinberg as "an anti-racist white, working-class, secular Jewish, transgender, lesbian, female, revolutionary communist" who "was the first theorist to advance a Marxist concept of 'transgender liberation.'

    Just seven months into his retirement, Rosario "Junior" Pace, the long-time owner of Johnny's Pizza in Syracuse, died last week in Florida. Pace was 64. He died Oct. 26 at his home in Melbourne Beach after a brief illness.

    Domestic violence 911 calls slightly down in Syracus...

    The number of domestic violence 911 calls in Onondaga County dipped slightly in 2013, according to the 25th annual Vera House report. Other law enforcement agencies in Onondaga County, including state police in the county, responded to 7,507 calls for domestic violence, 119 fewer than last year.
