    State Prison Inmate Dies From Illness

    A man serving life in prison for killing a woman in Sioux Falls 45 years ago has died. Corrections officials say 69-year-old Dale Aschmeller died Thursday morning at a Sioux Falls hospital, following a lengthy illness.

    South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard says higher revenues and lower-than-anticipated spending mean the state has ended the 2015 budget year with a surplus for the fourth year in a row. Daugaard on Monday announced that the state finished the 2015 fiscal year that ended June 30 with $21.5 million over revenue estimates that lawmakers adopted in March.

    Jeremy J. Langley, 33, of Sioux Falls, died Friday, June 26, when he crashed his motorcycle on 41st Street about four miles west of Ihlen in Pipestone County near the South Dakota state line. The crash came after a high-speed chase had been called off by Pipestone County Sheriff Keith Vreeman.
