    UNI worker killed by steam leak at dining center

    The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports the employee died Monday morning while working on malfunctioning equipment at the Rialto dining center on the Cedar Falls campus. University spokesman Aaron Clingingsmith says 61-year-old Kevin J. Bley died from injuries he received while testing a steam distribution service, which heats water for the center's dining service.

    The Delta Democrat-Times reports Greenville police say the man aimed a gun at them after running away on Friday afternoon. Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant says officers then shot the man.

    Music fans are mourning the passing of the "Queen of Soul" . Aretha Franklin died of pancreatic cancer Thursday at her home in Detroit at age 76. Promoter Dave Bernstein says he had tried several times to book Franklin that year, and one day got a phone call from a private number: Bernstein says she made the bellhops wait until all of her dresses and cases of sheet music were brought into her room: Franklin performed all of her hits like "Respect" and 'Natural Woman" at the Sioux City show which would be her last Iowa performance.

    The Highway Patrol has identified victims of two fatal crashes related to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in western South Dakota. Fifty-six-year-old James Barbier, of Aurora, Colorado, died Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 85 near Cheyenne Crossing.
