Walter Kohn, whose parents saved his life by sending him out of Nazi-dominated Europe before the outbreak of World War II and who went on to become an American citizen and a winner of the Nobel Prize in chemistry for work vital in developing new materials for electronics and medicine, died April 19 at his home in Santa Barbara, Calif. He was 93. Dr. Kohn, who was born into a Jewish family, was expelled from school in his native Austria after the Nazis annexed the country in 1938. Comment?

Walter Kohn, an emeritus professor at UC Santa Barbara who was the university's first Nobel laureate, died Wednesday night, the university confirmed Thursday. Elizabeth was born Feb. 27, 1960, at Saint Francis Hospital in Santa Barbara to her parents, Mary Elizabeth Reddin and Bowen Franklin Reddin Jr. She graduated from Dos Pueblos High School class of 1978, where she was drill team captain and a member of the swim team, and attended Santa Barbara City College after graduation. She loved animals, flowers and little kids, and especially delighted in her younger nieces and nephews. Comment?
