She was 89. Dalis was a towering figure in the local artistic community and remained the driving force behind Opera San Jose until retiring as director in June after three decades with the organization.

    Authorities have identified the man whose body was found in a car that strangely caught fire after a minor collision in a parking garage across from the county courthouse, but how he died remains unclear. Bernard Joe Garcia, 70, of San Jose, was found dead around 9:20 a.m. Monday amid the remnants of a car that caught fire on the second story of the parking structure on West Hedding Street that serves the Santa Clara County Main Jail and the Hall of Justice.
