    Marilyn M. Cravo, 77, of Dartmouth, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long battle with heart disease. Marilyn worked as a stitcher for Justin Clothing in New Bedford until marriage.

    Longtime KFMB/Channel 8 reporter Larry Himmel has died of cancer, his colleagues announced on their 11 p.m. newscast Wednesday. It was an emotional half hour, as his co-workers mourned and remembered him leading into news stories and the weather report before they emotionally abandoned the structure of their evening telecast, forgoing the sports segment to talk about Himmel and laugh and grieve and get through it together.

    10-year sentence for woman in 'Bonnie and Clyde' cri...

    A young woman who took part in a series of armed holdups and assaults with her 40-year-old husband, who died in a Halloween gun battle with San Diego police two years ago, was sentenced Friday to 10 years in state prison. Cindy Altamirano Garcia, 20, pleaded guilty in September to a carjacking at College Grove and assault with a semiautomatic weapon on a peace officer.

    Ex-day care operator charged in baby's...

    James Patrick Nemeth, 38, of San Diego was arrested last week in connection with the death of Louis Michael Oliver, an 11-month-old boy, at a now-closed facility. Nemeth was charged with murder and assault on a child under age 7. On May 23, 2012, the baby suffered head and spinal trauma at the home-based day care on Mount Davis Avenue in Clairemont.

    Homeless deaths recalled in...

    A march of over 100 people to recognize the 56 homeless people who have died in San Diego this last year took place Sunday afternoon. The group began the march from the San Diego Rescue Mission and finished at the County Administration Center where they prayed, sang and remembered those who have died on the streets.

    Race for cure draws...

    There's a metaphor in there somewhere- how the weather reflected both the gloom of a cancer diagnosis, and the promise of surviving and recovering from the disease. The 5k race had an atmosphere that was festive and celebratory but also tinged with somber notes of remembrance of friends and relatives who have died.

    Man pleads not guilty to felony charges in high-spee...

    A man who allegedly led threw illegal drugs out of his car while leading authorities on a high-speed chase from Bay Terraces to his Oak Park home, where he bailed out of the vehicle and was arrested in a neighbor's yard, pleaded not guilty Thursday to nine charges, including felony evading with reckless driving. Besides evading officers, the defendant -- who has a prior drug-related conviction -- faces felony charges of possession for sale of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, transportation of a controlled substance and possession of ecstasy.

    Fugitive parolee arrested after police chase near SR...

    The man, whose name was not immediately available, ran off from the patrol personnel when they contacted him in a gorge off the 1000 block of Washington Street about 10:30 a.m., according to San Diego police. They gave chase as he ran around and dodged them on a nearby State Route 163 ramp and nearby areas, SDPD public-affairs Mark Herring said.

    Woman, child hurt after driver runs red light

    An 8-year-old girl being held in the lap of a wheelchair-bound pedestrian suffered a skull fracture when the two were struck by a Cadillac that ran a red light Thursday in the Valencia Park section of San Diego. The female in the wheelchair was holding the child and crossing in a crosswalk at a green light when they were struck about 5:50 p.m. in the 5400 block of Imperial Avenue , said San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

    Police find zip gun after short pursuit

    An Emerald Hills man is in custody tonight for violating a restraining order, but it's what he had with him when he was arrested that has him in real trouble. Police were searching for the man at a home in the 500 block of Merlin Drive Thursday when he and another man ran from the house.

    Police identify 2 suspects in 30-year-old murder

    A one-time San Diego police civilian employee who died in an apparent suicide in the East County highlands this week was due to be arrested on suspicion of taking part in the gruesome murder of a teenage girl 30 years ago, authorities reported Thursday. Kevin Charles Brown, 62, was found dead at Cuyamaca State Park on Tuesday afternoon.
