    Monument Avenue Commission recommends removing Jeff ...

    The Monument Avenue Commission formed by Mayor Levar Stoney nearly a year ago to "redefine the false narrative of the Confederate statues that line" Monument Avenue released their full report on Monday. In the 117-page report, the 10-member commission recommended removing the Jefferson Davis monument and repurposing the site for a new monument, pending the outcome of current litigation or changes in state law.

    Sinkholes popping up in Richmond frustrating locals

    Employees at Mimms Funeral Services told 8News that the Richmond crew members just put orange cones on top of the sinkhole on Wednesday after months of pleading for the city to make repairs. For months employees at Mimms funeral home have watched a sinkhole form right outside the front door at Hull and 19th Street.

    A Hopewell man has died three weeks after he was shot in Richmond, according to Richmond police who are now investigating the shooting as a homicide. At 2:57 a.m. May 29, officers responded to the 2300 block of Bethel Street where they found Charles H. Pope Jr., 30, in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.

    Richmond police identify victims of fatal shooting

    The Richmond Police Department has identified two victims found shot to death after officers responded to the sound of gunfire on Lincoln Avenue this past Sunday. At about 11 p.m. Sunday, officers were in the area of the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue for an unrelated call when they heard gunfire, Richmond police said in a news release on Wednesday.

    An injured man attempted to render aid to his dying roommate after a shooter opened fire inside their Southside home. Richmond Police responded to a call for a man with a gunshot wound at a home along the 900 block of Belt Boulevard near the intersection of Stockton Street around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

    Authorities have released the name of the 43-year-old man killed in a double shooting inside a home on Richmond's Southside late Wednesday night. James Mercante, a spokesperson for Richmond Police, said officers were called to a home in the 900 block of Belt Boulevard for the report of a person shot at 11:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Kenneth L. Brown, of the 900 block of Belt Boulevard, unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

    Finally a resting place for Civil War brothers

    Three men with the John B. Anderson Camp of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War stand with their guns at their sides as they wait to honor the brothers with three volleys. A rose, a flag, a wreath of evergreen and a wreath of grapevine were laid on and at the foot of the headstone during the memorial ceremony.
