    Boy Killed, Toddler Swept Away By Westa

    CBS News reports that bands of strong thunderstorms pounded West Virginia with heavy rains and whipping winds Thursday, knocking out power for tens of thousands of homes and businesses and causing extensive flooding damage in some areas. The storms spurred Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin to declare a state of emergency in 44 counties, with some areas rendered inaccessible because of damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure, Tomblin wrote in a proclamation.

    Wheeling police say an 8-year-old boy died after he was swept away by swift water, and searchers continue looking for a younger boy who was swept away in Jackson County near the Ohio River. The Intelligencer reports Deputy Police Chief Martin Kimball said Emanual Williams was walking with his sister and mother when he slipped in water and was pulled under.

    Earl C. "Hick" Casto, 87, of Ripley passed away June 8, 2016, at Jackson General Hospital following a long illness. He was born May 11, 1929, at Belgrove, a son of the late Roscoe and Freda Faber Casto.

    Toni Bare

    She was born March 1, 1953 in Montgomery, W.Va., daughter of the late James Ernest Chapman and Mary Katherine Loudermilk. She is survived by two sons, Lee Bare of Ravenswood and Chris Bare and his wife Melissa Rolston-Bare of Stafford, Va.; three grandsons, Trae, Noah and Payce; two sisters, Cecilia Bare and Jo "Sis" Huddleston both of West Virginia; one brother, David Earl Chapman of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

    James M. Bunner

    James was a member of EAA, where he won AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH in 2009. Once when he was hauling skydivers, he ran out of gas and landed on State Route 50. He was former president of Jackson County Pilot's Association.

    She was born on July 8, 1934, in Terra Alta, W.Va., daughter of the late Dailey Nordeck and Pearl Edna Phillips Freeland. Dolores was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ravenswood where she formerly served as a deaconess.

    Mid-Ohio Valley to honor the fallen on Memorial Day

    Several communities in the Mid-Ohio Valley will be celebrating Memorial Day with parades and ceremonies during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. One ceremony in Parkersburg will be held May 28, while May 29 will feature two programs in Ravenswood and one in Parkersburg.
