The Chronicle has learned that Donn Chappellet , founder of Napa Valley's Chappellet winery, died on Sunday at home with his family. He was 84. Not only did Chappellet and his family create one of Napa's most iconic Cabernet brands, but they also - in a slightly unusual move - trademarked Pritchard Hill, the subregion in which their property lies, and never allowed it to become an official American Viticultural Area. California Highway Patrol Officer Charles Sorensen and Solano County Sheriff's Deputy Hale Humphrey had come by the county jail where now-retired Sheriff's Deputy Ben Villarreal worked the day before the two law enforcement officers were killed by two suspected robbers on March 15, 1963. Retired Fairfield Police Officer James Newcomb knew both Humphrey and Fairfield Police Officer Arthur Koch, who was killed answering a police call on July 29, 1984. Comment?
