    Mr. Joseph L. DeLaura, 69, died on September 14, 2018 at his home in West Caldwell, surrounded by his loving family. A funeral mass will be offered in St. Aloysius Church, Caldwell, on Monday, September 17 at 10 a.m. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home , 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona will be on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Born in Montclair and raised in Verona, Mr. DeLaura lived in West Caldwell for the past 41 years.

    George Walker, who won the Pulitzer Prize in music in 1996 and was a visiting professor at the University of Colorado for the 1968-69 academic year, died Aug. 23 at age 96. George Walker, the first black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize in music and once a visiting professor at the University of Colorado, has died at the age of 96. Walker died Aug. 23, and a memorial service will be held Thursday in Montclair, N.J., where he lived, according to the Montclair Times . Walker was awarded a Pulitzer in 1996 for "Lilacs," a work for voice and orchestra that was premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
