    Candlelight vigil held for International Overdose Aw...

    On a calm, warm night, Aug. 31, nearly 100 people gathered in front of the Walker Building for a candlelight vigil to solemnly remember the 1,260 residents of Massachusetts who have died of an opiate overdose over the last year. The vigil, held as part of International Overdose Awareness Day, was organized by Marlborough resident Kathy Leonard, whose son, Jonathan Testa, died of a heroin overdose in December 2012.

    Lorraine A. Letendre, 69, of Marlborough, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015 at Millbury Healthcare Center. She was the wife of the late Clarence F. Letendre Jr., who died in 2009.

    Candlelight vigil to be held in memory of victims of...

    Those who go through downtown Marlborough this weekend either on foot or in car will most certainly be struck by a powerful display of over 1,200 small purple flags that have been placed on the front lawn of the Walker Building, 255 Main St. The flags were placed there in memory of those residents of Massachusetts who have lost their battle with drug addiction over the past year. In conjunction with the flags, the public is invited to an International Overdose Awareness Day candlelight vigil that will be held there Monday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. The event is being organized by Kathy Leonard, whose son, Jonathan Testa, died from a heroin overdose last December.

    Sister Claire Ferland, 92, of Marlborough

    Sister Claire Ferland, a Sister of St. Anne, died in her 92nd year and in her 21st year of vowed religious life at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough Friday, Aug. 21, 2015. She was the second of five children born to Omer and Lumina Ferland, formerly of Central Falls, R.I. Following high school, she joined the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec and pronounced vows and was known as Sister M. Omer of Jesus.

    Marcia M. Eisenhauer, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Marlborough, the daughter of the late A. Norman and Mabel Forbush, and lived there for much of her young life.

    2-Year-Old Foster Child Laid To Rest As Probe Continues

    A 2-year-old Massachusetts girl who died in foster care was laid to rest Friday as the circumstances around her death remain a mystery. Family and friends of Avalena Conway-Coxon gathered for a one-hour, private morning service at the Immaculate Conception church in Marlborough.

    Frances Fahey, 94, formerly of Marlborough

    Frances Elizabeth Fahey, formerly of Marlborough, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015 at her residence in Charleston, S.C. one week after celebrating her 94th birthday. The youngest child of Nicholas and Elizabeth Ford Seymour, she married James Eugene Fahey Jan. 29, 1942 following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and immediately prior to Jim's deployment with the First Marine Division to Guadalcanal.

    In memory of those who have lost their battle with addiction, over 1,000 purple flags will be placed on the front lawn of the Walker Building later this month. The public is then invited to an International Overdose Awareness Day candlelight vigil that will be held there Monday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. Those who have lost a loved one to addiction may send a photo to be included in a memorial slideshow to the event's coordinator, Kathy Leonard, at [email protected] .
