Lewis B. Rome, a prominent figure in both government and education in Connecticut, died Wednesday evening after a long illness. He was 81. A former Bloomfield mayor, state senator and chairman of the board of trustees at Uconn, "Lew," as he was known, will remembered for his leadership and tireless commitment to the state of Connecticut, officials said. Survivors include his wife, Sara Spurgin; his mother, Mildred; and siblings, Dr. Greg Spurgin, Steve Spurgin, Rod Spurgin, Bev Nitsch, Kim Pannell, Mindy Brooks and Sheila Falls, all of Indianapolis. A service was conducted May 16 by Kurt Nitsch and Dr. Greg Spurgin at Swan's Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison, Connecticut. Comment?
