    Mortician is sentenced on two fraud charges

    Former Whitehall mortician Thomas Claude Clock III has been sentenced to eight months in jail with credit for time served, 24 months probation for gross fraud or cheat at common law, $4,758 fines/costs, and a concurrent conviction of gross fraud or cheat at common law and practicing a regulated occupation or using designated title without license or registration, $4,758 fees/costs. Clock pleaded no contest June 23 in two separate cases of common-law fraud as a result of empty-box burials.

    Mr. Gerald Lee Sladick, Jr., 56, of Ludington, passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. He was born April 23, 1960, in Ludington to Gerald and Joyce Sladick, Sr. A lifelong Ludington resident, Gerald graduated from Ludington High School with the class of 1978.

    George Christopher

    George Christopher of Sylvania, Ohio, and formerly of Ludington passed peacefully at the age of 83 at the NW Ohio Hospice on Aug. 3. He was an active 33rd degree Mason and past Master of the Pere Marquette Lodge in Ludington. He was also a longtime member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Ludington and enjoyed being involved in many church activities.

    Man who died in U.S. 31 motorcycle accident identified

    The 54-year-old Ludington man who died Friday afternoon in a motorcycle accident along U.S. 31 in Mason County's Grant Township has been identified as Gerald Jerome Niemiec. Niemiec was driving south on his 1969 Harley-Davidson Spirit three-wheeled motorcycle when it ran off the right side of the road, went through a ditch and struck a house.
