    Services set for LFR division chief who died Saturday

    On Saturday, Lubbock Fire Rescue Division Chief Michael Lewis passed away at the age of 56 after serving 28 years for the Lubbock Fire Department. Visitation for Lewis will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Lakeridge Memorial Chapel, located at 6025 82nd St. A service will be hosted at 11 a.m. Friday at Monterey Baptist Church, located at 3601 50th St, with an internment at Resthaven Cemetery to follow.

    Lubbock County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 28-year-old man who reportedly admitted to leaving his children home alone before a fire erupted in their West Lubbock residence and killed them, according to an arrest warrant. Wesley Lance Harvey, 28, was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a charge of abandoning or endangering a child, a state-jail felony that carries a punishment of 180 days to two years in a state jail.

    Man killed in bar fight was Navy veteran, Army Sergeant

    Officials with the Lubbock Police Department are conducting an investigation into the death of 39-year-old Zenon Cano Jr. The investigation revealed on October 10, Cano was at CC's Bar and Grill, located in the 1600 block of 50th street, where he was involved in a fight. Following the fight, Cano was taken to a local emergency clinic by private vehicle, where he was then taken to UMC by EMS.

    Peggy Sue Gerron, whose name has echoed in the annals of rock 'n' roll for six decades as the crush in the Buddy Holly classic song "Peggy Sue," has died at the age of 78 in Lubbock, Texas, where she and Holly went to high school, officials said. The 1957 song from Holly and his band the Crickets was an anthem of the early days of rock 'n' roll and inspired a sequel tune from Holly called "Peggy Sue Got Married," which was also the title of a 1986 movie.
