    Harold Clinton Carpenter, 87, was superintendent of LCISD from 1965 to 1983, but started as a math and science teacher in 1953. "I really suspect a lot of that comes from the foundation that he laid," Fly said.

    Lubbock police on Friday would neither confirm nor deny that the man they say is a person of interest in Mark Ysasaga's murder was paid $10,000 from Crime Line for information on Ysasaga's remains. Lt. Ray Mendoza said he did not know if Christian Castro - who was arrested June 4 on charges unrelated to the death of the teen missing since 2012 - was the one who gave the tip.

    Manager of Lubbock's last Dunlap's store dies at 81

    Bill Wayne Vaughn spent nearly all of his life in the retail business and 51 of those years working for Dunlap's department store. Vaughn died Saturday at the age of 81. He was the manager of the 50th Street and Elgin Avenue store for 15-20 years until it closed September 2007.

    Jean K. Martin, age 87, of Lubbock, was reunited with her beloved husband of 62 years on Thursday, May 28, 2015. She married Everett Raymond Martin in 1946, they moved to Amarillo, Texas, where they were members of Southside Church of Christ.
