    Howard Covert

    Howard Covert, 85, formerly of Lisbon Road, died at 2:35 p.m. Saturday at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem. Mr. Covert was born May 1, 1933 in Nelsonville, Ohio, a son of the late Maurice and Mable Covert, and had lived in the Lisbon area for the past 32 years.

    Mary "Tootie" Glover

    Survivors include three daughters, Debrah Ward of Ashland, Va., Karen Banister of Lisbon and Linda Railing of Wellsville; two sons, Richard Glover of Black Canyon City, Ariz., and Dennis Glover of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Gladys Thorne of Midland Heights, Pa.; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home.

    Melvin Bricker

    Born June 5, 1946 in Salem, he was a son of the late Galen E. Bricker and Iona D. Bricker-Smith. A Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees, Mel was a member and past commander of V.F.W. Post 4111 and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2216, and the Tri-County 4-Wheelers Club.

    Dorothy Mae Slagle, 92, completed her pilgrimage here on earth to enter her eternal home in heaven on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice facility in Butler, PA. She was born on November 16, 1925 in Plum Creek Township, a daughter of the late Clark Wilson Leonard Eakman and Lydia Ellen Eckman.

    Helen Lou Steitz, 92, formerly of Lakeview Drive, died at 2:27 a.m. Sunday at Whispering Pines Village where she had recently made her home. Mrs. Steitz was born Jan. 12, 1926 in Salem, a daughter of the late Clyde and Mabel Williams Dickey, and had lived in this area all of her life.

    Gary F. Hall, age 83 of Lisbon, went home to be with the Lord June 12, after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was the son of the late Robert E. Hall and Thelma Grimm Hall.

    Betty Evans

    A homemaker, she was born May 13, 1923 in Alliance, the daughter of the late Fredrick and Ida Fogel Holzer. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Plecas of Columbiana, Linda Evans-Dennis of Lisbon and Valerie Musser of New Waterford; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.

    VFW Post 4111 in Lisbon is using this Memorial Day to seek community support in an effort to keep it's doors open. But not the last couple of years because of an embezzlement discovered of more than $100,000, unrenewed licenses and bills unpaid.
