    With the flag at half staff beyond the outfield Monday afternoon, Leicester High School baseball players wore hand-lettered blue shirts with slain Auburn Police Officer Ronald Tarentino Jr.'s name written on them in black marker. At the the ballfield in Rochdale, a section of Leicester, before to the Leicester-Quaboag game, the players of both teams lined the first and third base paths for a moment of silence for the 42-year-old police officer and Leicester resident who was fatally shot early Sunday morning while making a traffic stop on Rochdale Street in Auburn.

    Suspect in fatal shooting of Auburn policeman is dead

    The suspect in the fatal shooting of an Auburn police officer is dead, District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. confirmed in a news conference Sunday evening. The officer, making a motor vehicle stop, was shot and killed overnight.

    A police officer was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Auburn early Sunday and sources tell 7News that the suspect is also dead. Sources tell 7News that the suspect was killed in a shootout in Oxford Sunday evening.

    Slain Auburn officer was a married father of three

    Auburn Officer Ronald Tarentino, who was slain in a traffic-stop shooting early Sunday morning, was a married 42-year-old father of three. Tarentino was shot around 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Rochdale Street, when the occupant of a vehicle fired at him and then fled the scene, officials said.
