    Betty L. Starkey, who had moved to this area three years ago to be closer to family, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at East Liverpool City Hospital. A resident of Azalea Avenue in East Liverpool, she was 88. She was a native of Smithfield, W.Va., born there on July 24, 1927, to Russell and Laura Gray Yeater.

    Loren H. Goehner, a retired teacher who founded St. Paul's Lutheran School in Kingsville, died Dec. 16 in Bel Air of a heart attack. He was 84. Born in Hiawatha, Kan., in 1931, he was adopted as an infant by Ed and Josephine Goehner and raised in Leavenworth, Kan.
